Close Your Books
The month-end period closing is where your accounting work becomes posted journal entries. You review the entries the period's activity produced, work any queued decisions, post them in reviewed batches, and run the close: once the closing finishes, the period locks and its posted entries stay fixed. Closing is the last step before your posted journal entries are ready to bring into your ERP.
This is the final step of the getting-started flow: your leases are in (Upload your first leases) and measured (Publishing your first measurement). If you want the full accounting lifecycle first, read How lease accounting works.
Review the period's journal entries
The period's accounting activity becomes journal entries, coded through the chart of accounts, chart-of-accounts mappings, and GL coding templates. Reviewing those entries and their coding is the first phase of your close.
Review the journal entries the period's activity produced, including the GL coding on each entry.
If the coding looks wrong, it is not fixed on the entry itself: the chart of accounts, chart-of-accounts mappings, and GL coding templates are what drive it, and setup administrators configure the chart of accounts. How lease accounting works explains which entries each lease produces and why.
Work the queue before posting
Revisions and lease transactions that need a decision are queued for accountants to work. Include them in your month-end review, alongside the journal entries, so the decisions you make are part of the same period's activity.
Post the entries in reviewed batches
Journal entries post in reviewed batches during the month-end period closing. Posting is a review-and-approve step, not a one-click export: the batch goes up only after the entries in it have been reviewed.
Post the period's journal entries in reviewed batches.
The dashboard has a period-close progress widget, so you can see where the close stands without leaving your dashboard.
Close the period
When the entries are posted, run the month-end close for the period. Once the closing finishes, the period locks, so the period's posted entries stay fixed.
Run the close only when the period's review and posting are complete.
After the close
The posted journal entries are ready to bring into your ERP. From there, reporting wraps up the month: reports built from the accounting datasets can be saved, re-run each period, and exported to Excel or CSV, the Portfolio page gives an accounting overview by reporting entity, period, and standard, and disclosures include footnote disclosures and roll-forwards.
