Work Items, Flows, and the Work Queue
Work Items, Flows, and the Work Queue are how Leasecake organizes follow-up work so a person or group can pick it up and finish it. A Work Item is a single piece of work, a Flow is the path of Stages a Work Item can move through, and the Work Queue is the inbox where Work Items are routed for triage. This article explains what each one is and when to use it.
What a Work Item is
A Work Item is a single piece of work for a person or group to complete. Work Items come to exist in two ways: you create one directly, or an Automation creates one as one of its steps. Either way, the Work Item is the record your team works from, and it can be routed to the people responsible for it.
Flows and Stages
A Flow is the path a Work Item follows, and it is made up of Stages. Each Stage is one state the work passes through. Assign a Flow when a piece of work should move through several states before it is done.
A Work Item does not need a Flow. When the work is simple enough to finish without intermediate states, leave the Flow off and the Work Item has no Stages to move through.
The Work Queue
The Work Queue is an inbox where Work Items are routed for groups and users to triage. The group or user a Work Item is routed to picks the work up from there.
Work Items are routed to groups and users, which you set up when you invite users and assign roles.
