Set Up Lease Custom Fields
Custom fields add your own fields to every lease, and they are set up in two places: a setup administrator configures the field once in Setup, and then anyone editing a lease fills in its values on the lease's Custom Fields tab. Fields can hold numbers, dates, text, choices, and links to people or users, and a field can be marked required so no lease publishes without it.
Add a custom field in Setup
Setup access is required to create fields. Custom Fields lives under Platform in Setup, alongside the other workspace-wide configuration.
Open Setup and go to Platform > Custom Fields.
Click New custom field.
In Field Details, enter the field's name and choose its Data Type: Integer, Decimal, Boolean, Date, Text, URL, or Connection.
Choose a Format where the data type offers one:
Data Type
Format choices
Integer
Currency, Percent
Decimal
Currency, Percent, Custom Number
Text
Single Line, Multi Line, Single Choice, Multi Choice
Boolean, Date, URL, Connection
No Format choices
Set the extra options a format adds. Custom Number adds Decimal Places. A Single Choice or Multi Choice field lists its options under Choices. A Connection field adds Connects To, where you choose Person or User.
In Appears On, click Add record type and select Lease Contract. This is the record type the lease editor uses, and it is distinct from the lease's separate reading page.
On the record type, turn on Required if every lease must have a value before it can publish, and add optional Helper Text to guide the people filling the field in.
Fill in custom fields on a lease
The lease editor has its own Custom Fields tab, and it saves values directly: unlike the lease's contract sections, editing it does not require opening a draft (see Create a Lease for how drafts and publishing work).
Open the lease and choose the Custom Fields edit tab.
Fill in each field your organization has configured. The fields appear with the labels, formats, and types your administrator set, such as date pickers, choice selectors, multiline text areas, and searchable selectors for connections.
Click Save changes. The page confirms with Custom Fields Saved and the message Your changes have been saved.
The lease also has a separate read-only Custom Fields page that displays the configured fields for anyone reviewing the lease. Fields with no value show as N/A.
Required fields and publishing
A custom field marked Required must have a stored value before the lease can be published. Publishing a lease that is missing a required field is blocked with a message to set that field first, so complete the field on the lease and save before publishing.
